This is a delightful 80mile walk through some of Yorkshire’s most beautiful countryside linking Ilkley with Bowness-on-Windermere on the edge of the Lake District. Rolling hills, escarpments, clear rivers, monastic ruins and attractive stone and cobbled villages removed us from the fast moving world of our daily lives.

By the time you are driven to our chosen campsite, there was a howling gale making it impossible to erect the shelters containing the kitchen and dining areas. So, off we went to the pub!

The outline itinerary is as follows

Day 1 (6th June) –A minibus will drive the group from Worcester to camp at Masons Campsite, Appletreewick, Skipton, N. Yorks BD23 6DD (www.masonscampsite.co.uk) The campsite is a flat site surrounded by hills and adjacent to the River Wharf. There are two very nice pubs nearby!

Day 2 (7th June) – Walk Ilkley – Burnsall 13m

Day 3 (8th June) – Walk Burnsall – Kettlewell 10m

Day 4 (9th June) – Walk Kettlewell – Gearstones 16.5m

Day 5 (10th June) – Rest Day – The minibus will deliver the group to Settle to catch the 10.44 train to Carlisle arriving at 12.17. Time in Carlisle Castle before catching the 16.18 to Dent, arriving at 17.32 where minibus will collect. NB While group having a rest day the camp is moved to High Laning Caravan & Camping Park, Dent, Nr Sedburgh, Cumbria LA10 5QJ. (www.highlaning.com) This site is right on the edge of this attractive village attached to the museum and heritage centre. Again the site is flat and adjacent to the River Dee. The village gives us easy access to amenities.

Day 6 (11th June) – Walk Gearstones – Sedbergh 14.3m

Day 7 (12th June) – Walk Sedbergh – Burnside 15.9m

Day 8 (13th June) – Walk Burnside – Bowness-0n-Windermere 9.5m
