20 Days – 28th March – 16th April
Group Size: Open
2013 is a very significant year. Firstly it is the 60th anniversary of the first ascent of Everest and also the 20th anniversary of the first Himalayan Club expedition to Everest. It seems fitting that we mark both occasions with an ‘In the Footsteps of Everest ’53 and King’s ’93 Expedition. The group will fly into Lukla, following the route taken by the first King’s team in 1993. The route follows the traditional trek up to Base Camp, taking us to our high camp at Gorak Shep. En route we will be able to visit the hospital at Kunde and the school at Kumjung, both the result of the tireless work of Sir Edmund Hillary and the Himalayan Trust. From Gorak Shep we will be able to climb nearby Kala Pathar (5545m), which gives stunning views of Everest, Nuptse, Pu Mori and a host of other majestic giants, as well as visiting Base Camp. The trek out takes much less time, with Lukla being reached in five days. We shall fly from Lukla to Kathmandu and prepare for our return flight to the UK.
20 day itinerary land cost £1515 plus international airfare of around £700
