Mustang (Nepal) 2013

Location: Mustang / Nepal

Duration: 22 days  4th – 25th October

Group Size: Open

MustangThe Forbidden Kingdom of Mustang holds a great deal of fascination for me.  Firstly, the ‘forbidden’ gives it an air of mystery.  Indeed, for many years foreigners were forbidden to enter Mustang and when it did open up to a limited number a special permit was required.  The timing of this trip coincided with the end of the monsoon when the buck wheat was in flower i.e. during the autumn (late September/October). Flying to Jomsong from Kathmandu, we trekked up the Kala Gandaki Valley to Kagbeni, recognised as the entrance to Upper Mustang.  The trek of 13 days took us to the most interesting areas of Mustang and gave us an insight into this high altitude, very Tibetan lifestyle.  We were even able to take tea with the Crown Prince when we visited his palace in Lo Mantang!
